Suzanne Strazza

Conservation Field Organizer

Suzanne Strazza is a boatwoman, mother, author, and desert wanderer. In 1987, after graduating from college, she left her New Jersey childhood in the rearview mirror and moved throughout Utah, California, and Colorado, eventually settling in Montezuma County, CO where she has been for almost 30 years. She raised her boys in the canyons and on the rivers of the West, teaching them to love and protect their home landscape. Early in her career, Suzanne was a Course Director with the Colorado Outward Bound School, taking students into the wilds of Colorado, Utah, and Alaska, opening their eyes to the beauty of undeveloped locales and the need to protect them.

Suzanne is excited to work to protect the Dolores River Canyon Country. She has always been committed to fighting for those without a voice: innocent prison inmates, animals, and the fragile landscapes of the intermountain west. River conservation is where her heart lies. She has been supporting DRBA for many years by coordinating the annual silent auction and is thrilled to now be the Conservation Field Organizer.

In her spare time, Suz can be found wandering the canyons of the Colorado Plateau by boat and on foot. She writes for many publications about her connection to Place and the veins of the Colorado River watershed, including the magnificent Dolores. Her favorite days are those spent outside with her 3 adult boys and her corgi sidekick, Elvis.
